Commercial pet food – what you really need to know:

Commercial pet food. It’s processed. It’s packaged. It’s, let’s face it – mass produced. Full of additives and chemicals, processed pet foods are often linked to the poor health of animals consuming it.  Unfortunately most of society has accepted it as a diet and overlooked the fact that it has little nutritional value, but rather is full of starches and sugars, in comparison to the BARF Diet

Whereas the BARF Diet is full of environmentally rich, raw foods (health food) to equip your dog or cat with the proper nutrition, processed pet foods are so-called premium foods that are based on cooked grain.  In addition, the essence of dry foods lack essential fatty acids containing both omega 3’s and omega 6’s – and they have an incredible high level of cooked polyunsaturated fats.  Results of the high levels of heat damaged essential fatty acids will likely, over time, produce a significant amount of degenerative diseases such as auto immune diseases.

Convinced yet?  The raw diet, known as the BARF diet, is a natural diet. It exemplifies the evolutionary diet of pet animals.  It’s biologically appropriate for your dog or cat whereas processed foods are not biologically appropriate.  Essentially, processed foods which are low on nutrition and high on chemicals will help supply your veterinarian with a steady stream of office visit s (just think of all the extra visits as a result of consumption of the processed pet foods!)

Long-term results of feeding your dog or cat processed foods is poor.  Diseases and sickness occur.  While we’re not making the assumption that disease and sickness would not occur in any other circumstance, we’re saying that processed foods include flavor enhancers and chemicals which create unhealthy situations.

Chemicals with colored dyes to attract the consumer, to prevent the product from “expiring”.  Processed foods also lack certain adequate levels of vitamins. They don’t encounter for needs of certain animals whose requirements differ; in fact, pet foods are indigestible grain based fibers. They’re cheap.  They are unavailable nutrients. They lack fiber.  Whereas raw fiber (such as BARF veggies and fruit) from the BARF Diet is just that – raw, whole, and biologically appropriate for your pet, processed food is not. Processed food often contains inappropriate antioxidants, high levels of refined sugars and salts, coloring, flavoring, and chemicals in general.

Plus, cooking these products create negative results as well.  Nutritional value is typically lost in cooked processed foods; due to heat, enzymes and essential fatty acids are often lost.  Enzymes turn into cooked proteins.  In fact, processed pet foods lack biologically appropriate essential fatty acids. Either they were never added to begin with, or they have been lost through the cooking process.

While processed and cooked foods lack nutrients which are only present in raw foods, the BARF Diet contains the nutrients.  The antioxidants.  The proteins and vitamins essential for a healthy pet.
