According to the American Animal Hospital Association, roughly 30% of pet owners have lost a pet at some time. In the United States, over 60,000 pets are lost or stolen each year. It has been reported that 90% of pets with ID tags get returned to their owners. Conversely, 90% of pets without ID tags do not get returned. It has also been reported that there are approximately 60 million dogs currently living in the U.S. Of these 60 million, 8 to 10,000,000 of these dogs end up in shelters every year. Only 17 of every 100 dogs are ever reunited with their owner.
To bring this concern closer to home, of all the states in the U.S., Texas is ranked #2 for the most reported cases of lost dogs. California is ranked #1. Even more imperative is the statistic that out of all the cities in the nation, Houston is ranked #1 for the most reported incidents of lost dogs.
